Quick Facts about RA

Posted on October 5, 2008. Filed under: RA - 101 |

The following are just some quick facts and statistics you may not know about RA that I have learned over the years.

70% of people with RA are female.

RA is auto-immune which means that the body attacks itself a the site of the joints, as opposed to the body trying to attack a germ that has gotten into a joint.

Off the 200 kinds of arthritis, RA is one of the most common.  Up to 2% of the American population has RA.

People who smoke are more susceptible to developing RA.

Women typically develop RA from the late teens to age 60.
